The Palm Tree
Phoenix dactylifera, the botanical name of the palm tree, is a flowering plant species in the palm family, cultivated for its edible sweet fruit. a variety especially popular in tropical areas of the globe, belongs to the Palmaceae family: it is a plant with a variable height, which can reach up to 30 meters and produce on average up to 50 kilos of dates per year.
Although the precise place of origin is uncertain, it probably originated from the Fertile Crescent region straddling between Egypt and Mesoptamia, that in modern days roughly corresponds to most of Iraq, Kuwait, the eastern parts of Syria, Southeastern Turkey, and regions along the Turkish–Syrian and Iran–Iraq borders.
